Thankfully Pro Tools created a menu button within the Track List that allows you to quickly achieve this and it is located in the top right hand corner of the track list area. You will notice as soon as you click it that a number of options are made available which we will discuss now. I know Studio One can hide tracks, but I'd like the ability to simply hide and make inactive software instrument tracks including all of the additional processing on the strip. Either a right-click function, or in the menu drop down. Hides the track from the arranger, and turns off all processing (instruments, plug-ins, sends, etc.).
HiI am doing my first big film scoring job. Normally there is not enough money for real musicians and so I use Logic and Vienna to create the score. However this time there is some money for musicians. Which leads me to my problem.I have created the score in Logic with Vienna as usual, but I need to export all the tracks and import them into Pro-Tools as we are going to record a small chamber orchestra along with the mockup to add more realism. They are going to record and mix it using Pro-Tools.So my question is, how do I export all my tracks (50 instrument tracks) from Logic into Pro-Tools. I have Pro-Tools LE, so I want to export the tracks and have a Pro-Tools session with all my tracks ready for them.Any advice would be great!
If the audio is leaving Logic, to go and STAY in Pro Tools, you need to export your tracks. This is easily done, using the 'Export ALL Tracks as Audio Files' from the File Menu. This will create contiguous audio files that all start from bar 1, beat 1.
You simply import them all into PT, and you're all set. You'll need to create a new mix, but the audio will all be there.Read up on Exporting. It WILL include any plug-ins, and plug-in automation, but it will ignore volume and panning automation. If you are simply going to a PT studio to record strings, but then bringing the files back into Logic, I would highly recommend creating 'stems'. Stereo mixes of grouped instruments, such as guitars, keys, percussion, taken from your working mix.
Solo all the perc, hit 'bounce', making sure the locators in the bounce dialog box reflect the whole song. Bouncing can be done 'offline', making it go relatively quickly. Rinse and repeat with other instrument groups. Then you simply import your stereo stems into PT, setting the faders at unity, and you'll be hearing your rough mix, from only a handful of tracks. Much easier to deal with then importing 50 individual tracks, and trying to create a rough mix on the spot.I use stems exclusively when recording at another studio, knowing that I will be bringing the newly recorded tracks back into Logic.Message was edited by: Jim Frazier, because he can't type worth a sh.t.
Thanks Jim!Ok, hopefully what you said will work as I am taking all my tracks to the studio and it will be let on Pro-Tools.However, I do have one thing to check with you. I am using Logic with Vienna Ensemble 3. I am not sure if you are familular with it?I send midi-over-lan from Logic on my Mac Pro to a PC running ethernet. It triggers the samples and passes the audio back over the lan.To get this to work, I add a multi channel midi instrument, then add additional tracks for each instrument. When I do 'export all tracks' will it also bounce out the additonal tracks? Glad you mentioned that.Multi-channel instruments like that won't get exported individually.
Just the main output of the VI will.So. I would recommend bouncing those down one at a time.
I have not had much success bouncing Vienna Instruments off-line. Maybe it's the key switching, but my articulations were always whacked when I would try that.
So I bounce any Vienna Instruments in real time.Again, just make sure the locator in the bounce window starts at 1 1 1 1, so all your 'bounced' instruments have the exact same start time as any audio or instruments you are able to Export, using the export feature. If you're anal like me, take the time, once you have finished, to re-import these files back into a new Logic song, so you can verify that all is well. Of course, if you, yourself are going to make the PT session, using LE, that will serve as confirmation as well. Tom,I can't say that has ever happened to me.
It always works fine here. Although yes, folders have exhibited strange behavior in the past.
I do always unpack folders prior to exporting. Are you sure you aren't trying to export MIDI tracks from a multi-channel instrument? One thing I have gotten into the habit of though, is before I export, I unhide all the tracks, and delete any tracks I had hidden from the arrange page, as well as any tracks that are unused. So then, when I select 'Export ALL tracks as audio files', the dialog box should show 'Exporting #43 tracks', or whatever the amount would be.
Because I have deleted all hidden and unused tracks, the number it shows should reflect EXACTLY how many tracks are on the arrange page, ready to be exported.
